'I have waited so long, Mrs. President.'
A couple weeks ago, while touring through D.C., I had the great fortune to spend time in and around the White House, and with some amazing people who work with the Obamas. The experience moved me tremendously, more than I expected. I came away feeling so much gratitude and respect for our President and First Lady, and will miss them and feel the loss when they go. I also came away feeling that the government is not just some black box running on corruption. It is imperfect, but it's made of human beings who deeply desire to make our nation better than it is, to help people here and all over the world. I hesitate to even write that, because I've read it or heard it many times, felt it bounce off my numbed mind as empty rhetoric. But that force of love exists. My tiny peek behind the curtain reminded me of the audacity of hope, that we should demand of ourselves to reject fear, superficiality, and arrogance, and choose the path of compassion, love, and grace. Most elections are, and should be, about the policies and issues each candidate supports. I could happily talk for a long time about why Clinton wins across the board here, but it seems that somehow this decision has become even more simple, that the choice hinges on the character of the candidates. The Presidency is a special and important office. Let's give it the respect that it deserves and commands. Let's turn down a man who dismisses bragging about sexual assault as locker room banter, a man who continually belittles and puts down minorities. Let's elect someone prepared, super smart, and who has dedicated her entire life to public service. Let's elect Hillary Clinton to become the first woman President of the United States.
I think we better listen to these kids We can't keep pretending we know what we're doing And I can't keep pretending I'm afraid If you'll sit and listen, I'll tell you a secret We can do whatever we want We can say whatever we mean I have waited so long Mrs. President Matriarchs and teddy boys playing houses on the lake How can we quit drugs if you're gonna watch like that? Give me five good reasons to trust us with our future. We can do whatever we want We can say whatever we mean And if we don't care, then who cares? We've been dreaming of you Drinking from fountains of youth And if we don't change, then who'll change? We've been dreaming of you Drinking from fountains of youth I think we better listen to these kids I can't keep pretending that I'm still asleep And I can't keep pretending I'm afraid I was too stoned to call you but I thought that you'd say We can do whatever we want We can say whatever we mean And if we don't care, then who cares? We've been dreaming of you Drinking from fountains of youth And if we don't change, then who'll change? We've been dreaming of you Drinking from fountains of youth We can do whatever we want We can say whatever we mean We can do whatever we want We can say whatever we mean -- Recorded live at LNSY House in Silverlake
