Mirah's latest album, Changing Light, was released in 2014.
This song is the feeling of wanting to rowdily but peacefully recreate our country to be the place we want it to be. It's a rallying song, a protest song, about feeling sick of war, sick of the political stagnation in Washington, sick of the murders of unarmed black men and women at the hands of police, sick of all gun violence and senseless death, sick of bigotry and racism and about wanting to harness the power of the people's desire to live free, healthy and empowered lives. We want to create a society and a world where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. We want to keep perfecting the Union while rejecting divisiveness. Let’s make it beautiful and let’s have fun doing it. No Guns No Guns! And Never Trump.
We don’t want to give up what we came here for cause what we came here for we like We see you tearing off the pieces but we’re holding on, we’ll keep a-holding on tight We’re sick of being told that we can’t get anywhere, with your obstruction and your lies We’re gonna roll you over run you out of your seats we’ll get you out of our way this time Watch us keep on rocking it, we’ll roll it on in We’re gonna win we’re gonna make a change We’re gonna stand up tall and make it right alright We need to win there’s just too much at stake Hey we don’t want no guns, don’t want no wars no wars, don’t want to kill anyone, we want life To shine for all the people we want peace in the streets, no guns no guns no guns Hell no we’re not gonna let you throw the whole thing under with your stupid thunder and fights Your bullshit is so thick but we can see through it, we’ll scrub it off and turn on the lights Watch us keep on rocking it, we’ll roll it on in We’re gonna win we’re gonna make a change We’re gonna stand up tall and make it right alright Looks like you’ve got the joker and we’ve got the aces Here’s this song I’m gonna play I’m gonna play it loud, I’m gonna play it loud all night And sing for all the people who are holding on, the people fighting with their big hearts big minds ‘Cause we don’t want no guns, don’t want no wars no wars, don’t want to kill anyone, we want life To shine for all the people we want health and justice we want peace in the streets we want to live our lives I’ve got something, I’ve got something to say about it We’ve gotta do more than just wish bad things away We’ll all tell you we’ve got something to say about it We need to win there’s just too much at stake We need to win we’ve got so much to save. -- written and recorded by Mirah performed by Mirah featuring the voice of Brooklyn district 45 Brooklyn City Council member Jumaane D.
