Written by soul legend Otis Redding, this song became a hit when Franklin recorded it in 1967. Redding's version was written from the perspective of a working man who wanted the respect of his wife and family. Franklin's version had a similar style and tempo, but there were a few key changes in the lyrics that transformed the perspective of the song, lending it the voice of a strong, self-possessed woman.
