Day 101, Song 121

Radiohead

Idioteque

Radiohead have sold more than 30 million albums worldwide. They are one of the most critically acclaimed bands of the last few decades.

'Idioteque' was written after Johnny Greenwood handed Thom Yorke a fifty-minute digital audio tape he'd recorded. Yorke thought most of tape was unusable, but there was a forty-second clip that struck him as genius. He took this clip and used it to form the backbone of 'Idioteque.' The lyrics for the track, which were written by Yorke, are opaque and heavily contested, but many believe they speak to an impending apocalypse. The samples in the background of the song were made by minimalist composers Paul Lansky and Arthur Kreiger.
